L-Metionine is an essential amino acid containing sulfur, one kind of the eight necessary amino acids in human body. It is used as food additive and nutritional supplement. It is closely related to metabolism of various sulfur compounds in the organism. It is involved in protein synthesis, one of 20 amino acids in human body that are composed of protein. It is also a kind of beneficial antioxidants, and it helps break down fat, prevent fatty liver, cardiovascular disease and renal disease, and prevent muscle weak and feeble, remove harmful substances and heavy metals such as lead. L-Methionine can also play a role in detoxification by using its own methyl.
